Chicago Chapter Life Member Joe Sallas passed away on 28 June 2023 at the age of 89. Joe was a long-time member of our chapter and active in his younger days. Joe served with the 325 Airborne Infantry Regiment (82nd Airborne Division) as an Airborne Infantryman from 1951-54, earning the rank of PFC at discharge. Joe later served in the Special Forces and was an avid skydiver.

Joe's family will host a celebration of life and mass at, fittingly, St. Michael's Church in Schererville, IN, starting at 10:30am Central Time. Following will be a burial at the church cemetery, which should start between 11:30-12:00.

The Chicago Chapter will host an Airborne Farewell for Joe graveside during internment, to be followed by military honors. All chapter members and friends are invited to join us for the Farewell. Attire is Association Formal (navy blazer, gray slacks, white dress shirt, patriotic tie, black shoes, socks and belt, and beret. Otherwise, funeral appropriate, please. Participants should plan to arrive at the cemetery by 11:30 to prepare.
